Liveblogging ASG Senate Oct. 27

By • October 27th, 2009 • 10:50 pm.

6:25 – After seven meetings, the only thing ASG Senate has accomplished is sending a bunch of students to a football game.  The clocks are still out of synch, and there are still permits on our bikes.  There are no new programs being funded or even considered by the senate.

The ASG Executive Branch seems to be the only functioning piece here.

There are almost 50 of you senators now.  If only Sen. Lanis and Sen. Watson have time to write resolutions, the rest of you need to resign.  It’s been two months.

Student press is to blame.  It’s our #1 job to police student government.  Do we need to start babysitting during office hours?

Student voters aren’t exactly doing their job either.  Would you like to know how many non-ASGers have come to the Union Ballroom at 6:00 and told the Senate what they think during public comment?

Exactly zero.

If you’re reading this, don’t read another article or visit Facebook – instead, visit asg.uark.edu and use that handy little box to tell your senators to get to work!

6:24 – The bike permit resolution is tabled until next week.  Lippert says neither committee submitted a report.

6:23 – You didn’t show up for Public Comments section and so the senate has no idea what you think.

6:22 – Sen. Voor apologizes for missing office hours – says he had a cold this week but “forgot to go to” the other weeks his missed.

6:20 – Bike census will be conducted at 11:20 am.  Meet in the Union by the ASG office.

6:17 – Lippert urges senators to hold college caucuses.  “The goal is to elicit specific feedback from your college that you can bring back to this body.”

6:13 – Senate Chair Lippert is organizing a game of “assassins” as a fun way to get to know each other.

I vote that you are disqualified if you haven’t written any pieces of legislation yet this year.

6:05 – The 13 new senators are sworn in.

6:00 – Sen. Will Watson’s bike permit legislation will probably be tabled this week.  Watson won’t be here so it might be postponed yet again.  It was first introduced on October 13th.
