Survey: Students more dependent on technology than ever

Most men and women rely so heavily on technology that they’d prefer to give up a significant other for a week rather than surrender their cell phones or Internet connections, according to a survey released last month by Twix.

Twix surveyed nearly 1,050 men and women online in November 2009 to discover how greatly technology impacts Americans’ lives today.

According to the survey, college students are particularly dependent upon technology: 63 percent responded that they would opt for computers and cell phones over loved ones, compared to 20 years ago, when just 35 percent would take their computers over a significant other.

Technology also plays a significant role in on-campus interactions, with 45 percent of communication taking place in ways other than face-to-face interaction.
