The Arkansas softball team started the double-header off right Tuesday with a 1-0 win in eight innings against Louisiana-Monroe.

The Razorbacks move to 13-25 overall this season.

The game was scoreless until freshman Chloe Oprzedek hit an RBI single to left field with two outs on the board.

“Chloe has put in a lot of extra time in for hitting and in that first game she hit four solid balls, but only got two hits,” coach Mike Larabee said.

Senior Becca Carden continued to help the Razorbacks win.  She went 2-4 on the day.

Despite the low score, Arkansas’ bats were on track.

Oprzedek, freshman Linnea Ketcher and sophomore Jayme Gee all also went 2-4 on the day for the Razorbacks.

Senior pitcher Kim Jones battled the entire game with the Louisiana-Monroe batters.

She threw six strikeouts, allowed four hits and no runs in 29 at bats for the Warhawks.

“Kim Jones went out and just shut them down,” Larabee said. “I have always said you can be average everywhere but the pitching circle.”

The game went into extra innings before Oprzedek hit the game winning single.

“Nothing really surprises me this year.  We had a lot of opportunities with runners in scoring position, but just couldn’t get that big hit,” Larabee said.

The second game of the double-header was called because of inclement weather in the area.

The score when the game was called was 3-0 in favor of the Warhawks.

ULM went up early in the second inning when Roxane Cassel hit a solo home run.  Charlotte Pastor came to bat later in the inning with two outs on the board against the Warhawks and hit an RBI double to put ULM up by two.

“They got the big hits.  We had a couple of opportunities to score but just couldn’t get that big hit,” Larabee said.

The Razorbacks will face the University of Missouri-Kansas City May 5 in their final home game of the season.

Arkansas returns to conference play in Knoxville, Tenn., in a three game series against the Volunteers this coming weekend.
