Zimmerman Charged In Trayvon Martin Case
George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, now faces charges for second-degree murder in the Trayvon Martin case. Martin, a 17-year-old, was unarmed at the time, and was shot and killed by Zimmerman in late February, though Zimmerman claimed self-defense in the incident.
By now, we know the name Trayvon Martin through the plague of news reports and controversies over the shooting that took place earlier this year. A highly controversial situation, it was the topic of many of our Traveler columns and campus conversations, as well as the news we read. It was even a part of our campus with the student protest that took place earlier in the semester. As we finally watch Zimmerman faces charges for his crime, we can only hope that justice will prevail.
