Kentucky Camping Approved

Camping registration for the Arkansas vs. Kentucky game will be open to students starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12.

Due to possible weather conditions and fall break, it was decided that one night of camping would be more reasonable for the Kentucky game, said Rudy Trejo, assistant director of OSA.

Not as many students are expected to camp out for the upcoming game against Kentucky, Trejo said. However, there will certainly be those students who really value the camping tradition, and it was important to still have it available to those fans who wanted to camp out, Trejo said.

A few weeks ago, athletes, Associated Student Government and staff members from student affairs served pizza to students camping out for the Alabama game. This time, to mix it up a bit, students camping out Friday night will be served a late night breakfast at 9 p.m., Flanagin said.

Sponsored in part by PepsiCo, students will be offered Razorback Pop-Tarts, Dole orange juice and Starbucks Frappuccinos, Flanagin said.

Aside from the later registration times for this game, no other changes have been applied to the university rules and policies for camping activities, Flanagin said.

Although plans right now are to open camping, weather forecasts predict thunderstorms. In the case of severe weather conditions, the university policy is to cancel camping activities, Flanagin said.

“We want students to have fun, but we want everyone to be safe,” Flanagin said.

The student section needs assigned seating, at least by section or rows.  Its a shame that students don’t get to tailgate and spend time with their friends and/families on game days.  Greeks deserve a block, and other students should be able to secure a seat without camping out.  So many other SEC schools have great tailgating culture.  We miss out because we have to line up so early for a seat.
