It's already begun ... it seems like we were just buying trick-or-treat candy, and now it's already the holiday season. Last week, I went out to brunch with my sister. Holiday music was already playing over the speakers, even though it wasn't even Thanksgiving yet.

I've debated for months whether I should weigh in about the upcoming smoking ban. First of all, I'm not a smoker. Secondly, by the time it takes effect, I won't be a student here anymore. However, my natural, opinionated self still has some pretty strong ideas on the subject.

Ah, the season of death - my favorite time of year. The fact that I own a real black widow and two black cats has nothing to do with it. In researching all the different things the month of October has been devoted to, I discovered that, besides at least 74 other designations, it has been dubbed National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I was really surprised that I haven't found a single event or educational table scheduled for this at the UA.

Normally, I am a very calm person. Normally, things like heavy traffic and road construction, while annoying, don't cause my blood pressure to rise. If they did, I'd be in the coronary care unit because Gregg Street - the main access street to my neighborhood - has had some sort of construction going on for months now.

Minority student enrollment hit an all-time high this semester at the UA, with Hispanic American, American Indian and Black students showing the largest percentage increases, according to the Minority Recruitment and Retention Annual Report.
