I am officially going on record endorsing George W. Bush to be the next president of the United States. I am doing so for the following reasons. First, the president's economic policies are in line with policies that I believe will bring about the greatest positive impact on the economy of the United States over the long term.

The debates are over, and now it's time for the home stretch in this presidential election. Now that America has heard them speak, everyone has a much better idea what they'll be getting from either four more years of President Bush or four years under John Kerry, should he secure the victory.

In this election's third and final presidential debate Wednesday night, President Bush was again on the defensive, while Sen. John F. Kerry reinforced his role as the candidate who cares most about the meat-and-potatoes issues of the working class. The last debate was meant to target "domestic issues" such as jobs, taxes, healthcare, gay marriage and abortion.

The debates are finally over, and I must say that I am quite saddened. They really were high-quality entertainment - how often do you get to hear George W. Bush accuse someone else of a bait-and-switch? And his, "one of those exaggerations," funny in response to Kerry quoting Bush's March 13, 2002, press conference, during which Bush said, "I don't know where he [bin Laden] is.

The mission of all military actors currently in Iraq is to bring about at least a semblance of peace and order before the proposed - and single-mindedly reaffirmed - late-January elections. Recent revelations have shown that the CIA has thankfully abandoned plans to covertly influence the outcome of the farce that will serve as an experiment in imposed Middle Eastern democracy - a phrase that is laughable to anyone with a slightly morbid sense of humor, considering the circumstances.

I think the official subtitle of this column should be "Finding Ways to Feel Good About Myself." Week after week I keep managing to prove that I am not the stupidest person on the planet. I was raised on the idea, "No matter how good you think you are, there is always someone better.

A generation of Americans lost a superhero, and scientists lost a respected advocate Sunday when Christopher Reeve died during a standard wound treatment procedure that resulted from limited movement from the confines of a wheelchair. Unfortunately, the group to take the hardest hit from the loss of Reeve might be the victims of diseases, such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, whose patients' loudest voice was silenced with the death of one of the most outspoken supporters of stem cell research.

Perhaps in reaction to backlash concerning natural forests and the preservation of trees, some workers in Ohio appear to have taken the reasonable suggestion of a few and implemented it a little beyond its intended purpose. Following the plethora of wildfires that engulfed the Western United States a few years ago, many policy analysts - and at least one newspaper columnist whose face appears on this page - suggested that regulation of this nation's protected lands had gotten out of control.

Another presidential debate has gone onto the record, and still millions of Americans are undecided as to who will lead this nation during the next four years. There is something a little worrisome about the fact that the few million least decisive people in the country will determine who will be the next president of the United States, but that's another issue.

As many of you have no doubt noticed lately, it's time for elections again. With the recent Presidential debates, talk is abuzz about who is doing better in the polls and who's voting for whom. But what about the other elections? Do you know who you want to vote for mayor? How about your ward's alderman? While I'm sure the presidential candidates are going to appreciate your vote if elected, will they pick up the phone when you call them to give them your opinions on the best way to go about improving the local economy? While I can't speak for the candidates, you have a much better chance of creating a dialogue with your representatives on the local front.
