People in the Northwest Arkansas area who are looking for fun and unique local activities are in luck with an entertainment app that provides information on where to eat and what to see and do in NWA. With the simple act of scrolling on a screen, this app can help turn a boring weekend searching for something to do into a memorable experience.
Leisurlist launched in December 2017, and allows people to delve deeper into the culture and community of Northwest Arkansas, highlighting what NWA has to offer, according to Leisurlist.
“People should get the app if they’re wanting to experience the best of the best in Northwest Arkansas and tailor the events going on in the area to their interests,” said Jerra Nalley, Leisurlist founder and creator.
Leisurlist has 54 different interests on the platform. Whether it’s Latin food, movies, museums or walking and running, users can find something new and different to do, Nalley said.
The application features tabs including discover, which lists things such as events, happy hour deals, trivia nights, live music shows and fun runs. These events are updated daily, leaving the user with up-to-date information in the area.
Another feature of the app is called Insider View, which includes blog posts from local experts in fields such as mountain biking, food, music and theatre.
It acts as a way for passionate writers in the area to connect with and inform the NWA population, Nalley said.
“The blogs cover a multitude of topics such as, ‘How to Brunch Hard in Fayetteville and Springdale’ and ‘NWA’s Best Dessert Spots,’” said senior Taylor Conaway, an avid user of the app. “The best thing about them is that they feature different insider tips, such as the best things on the menu and the best times to go.”
Leisurlist is beneficial for those who might be new to Northwest Arkansas, or those who have lived in the area their whole lives, Nalley said.
Nalley thinks that UA students can use Leisurlist to really get to know Fayetteville and other areas like Rogers, Bentonville and Eureka Springs, she said.
Senior Kaylee Willis was born and raised in Fayetteville but uses the application to branch out of her comfort zone and stay connected to her community, she said.
“I grew up in Fayetteville, so it’s exciting to find new things that are out of my daily habits,” Willis said. “Leisurlist does a great job at raising awareness about local businesses that I wouldn’t have known of otherwise.”
Conaway is from Texas but uses the app to find out about new, local restaurants in Arkansas, she said.
“Leisurlist has introduced me to a ton of new restaurants and activities not just in Fayetteville but throughout the whole Northwest Arkansas region, such as awesome tacos in Springdale at Taqueria Don Guero and ice cream in Siloam Springs at Pure Joy,” Conaway said.
Some of the current events and blog posts on the leisurlist website and app include a guide to local farmers’ markets, happy hour deals and information about events like the Startup Crawl at the Fayetteville Historic Square on Sept. 14 at 5 p.m.
The app can be accessed through the Apple Store or Google Play.
