A driver almost crashed her car into Champions Hall Tuesday after losing control of her vehicle.
The driver, who refused to give her name, lost control of her manual-transmission vehicle after she tried to move to get out of the way of a Razorback Transit bus, she said..
The driver was worried about hurting anyone and was thinking about the student that died after being hit by a distracted driver Saturday, she said.
Senior Adam Leonard, a peer mentor for the Fulbright College Advising Center, had a table set up at the north entrance inside Champions Hall and saw the car coming toward the building.
“We were just sitting here, signing people in, and next thing we know she’s coming down the stairs,” Leonard said.
The driver turned and came down the stairs very fast, said junior Jordan Lawrence.
Lawrence thought the car was going to crash through the windows, but it stopped at the tables right in front of the building.
Juniors Madison Belew and Kaitlyn Harp were studying in the lobby of the building but did not notice what had happened until they saw people around them looking at the window, Belew said.
“I could’ve died, and I didn’t even know it,” Belew said.
UAPD has not yet identified if the driver or passenger is a member of the UA community.
