UAPD Investigates Report of Harassing Communications

UA Police Department officers are investigating a report of harassing communications from last week, according to the UAPD Daily Crime Log.

A male student reported to UAPD Sept. 25 that a person sent harassing messages Sept. 24 to a group of students through a group messaging app. The case is still active, so the messages cannot be released at this time.

The reported male student who sent the harassing messages through the GroupMe targeted specific individuals in the group, UAPD Capt. Gary Crain said.

Harassing communications is defined as a person who purposely communicates, through an electronic device like a cellphone, to annoy or alarm another person, according to Arkansas Code5-71-209. It is a Class A misdemeanor, which can result in up to one year in jail and up to a $2,500 fine.

Sept. 24

  • A student reported an out-of-state ex-boyfriend sent harassing messages through social media including posts to other people about her.


Sept. 25

  • A staff member reported someone damaged an exterior mounted lockbox and removed a key at One East Center on the Fayetteville Square.

Sept. 26

  • A CSA found a student in possession of alcohol in Walton Hall.

Sept. 27

  • A student reported someone stole the parking decal from his vehicle while it was parked in Garland Avenue Parking Garage.

  • A non-affiliated person was arrested on charges of criminal trespass in Arkansas Union.

  • A student reported someone stole clothes from a laundry room in Pomfret Hall.

  • A CSA found four students in possession of alcohol in Maple Hill East Residence Hall

  • Two students were also found in possession of alcohol in Pomfret Hall.

  • A student was arrested in Northwest Quad B Building on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.


Sept. 29

  • A non-affiliated person was arrested on Harmon Avenue south of Dickson Street on charges of public intoxication.

  • A non-affiliated person reported someone stole a tour pack from his motorcycle while it was parked at Baum Baseball Stadium during the Bikes, Blues and BBQ rally. The person later found the individual with the tour pack in possession. The individual bought it from an unidentified person but agreed to return the pack and reimburse the non-affiliated person for missing items.

Sept. 30

  • A non-affiliated person was arrested on charges of public intoxication in the parking garage at UAMS Northwest Campus.

  • A CSA found four students in possession of alcohol in Maple Hill East Residence Hall.

  • A non-affiliated person was arrested in the EZ Mart parking lot at 1417 W Martin Luther King Blvd. on charges of driving while intoxicated and a violation of ignition interlock device restriction.

  • A non-affiliated person was arrested on warrant for the original charge of possession of controlled substance in Bud Walton Hall.
