Officials at Arkansas State University alerted students at 1:35 p.m. today of a gunman on campus.

Sophomore Brett Dush, who attends Arkansas State, was in his dorm taking an online final when he received a text from his fraternity's GroupMe.

“They said there was a shooter but no one was harmed,” Dush said

By 1:48 p.m., the individual with the weapon was surrounded by police, according to the Arkansas State Twitter. No shots were fired as of 1:50 p.m.

Campus is still on lockdown, according to an ASU statement.

The suspect was in a green truck on the student union lawn, the Jonesboro Sun reported.

“Shooter armed with a shotgun in the back with two propane tanks ready to blow,” Chief Rick Elliot of Jonesboro PD told the Jonesboro Sun.

The incident started when a suspect drove into the center of campus, according to the ASU statement. Few details are available at this time.


UPDATE: The suspect has been arrested, the Jonesboro Sun reported.
