Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced Tuesday that events with up to 100 people may now take place without pre-approval from the Arkansas Department of Health.

Events with more than 100 people must still submit a formal plan to the ADH. This is up from the previous rule of 10 people that was enacted Jan. 2 by the ADH.

Active COVID-19 cases across Arkansas have continued on a downward trend that began in January.

Statewide active cases (confirmed and probable) fell 865 in a day bringing the total to 8,239 Wednesday, according to the ADH. Statewide cumulative cases rose to 314,192 Wednesday, an increase of 667 in a day. Hospitalizations increased by 36 since Tuesday to a total of 602 with 108 on ventilators. The state’s death toll is 5,313, up 26 in a day.

There was one new case and four new recoveries on campus Wednesday for a total of 22 active cases, down three from Monday, according to the UA COVID-19 Dashboard. The new case is listed as a self-reported positive. Of active cases, 18 are students, one is a graduate assistant, and three are staff members, according to the dashboard.

Of the 31,201 people who have been tested on campus since Aug. 10, 1,338 have been positive, for a cumulative positivity rate of 4.3%.
