Arkansas Congressmen Safe After Train Crash

Five Arkansas congressmen were involved in a train wreck in Virginia today but are uninjured.

The Amtrak train, carrying dozens of Republican congressmen, collided with a garbage truck in Crozet, Virginia, killing the driver of the truck and injuring the two passengers, according to an Associated Press article.

The congressmen were on their way to a Republican retreat in West Virginia, according to a tweet from Rep. Steve Womack (R), Arkansas’ third congressional district representative, today at 8:56 a.m. CST.

No one aboard the train was seriously injured, according the AP article.

Sen. John Boozman (R) and his wife Cathy Boozman were aboard the train but are uninjured, said Sara Lesure, John Boozman's press secretary, in an email.

Rep. Rick Crawford (R), from Arkansas’ first congressional district, was on the train but is uninjured, according to a tweet he made today. Rep. French Hill (R), from Arkansas’ second congressional district, was on the train but is uninjured, according to a tweet on his Twitter page.

Rep. Bruce Westerman (R), from Arkansas’ fourth congressional district, was on the train with his wife Sharon Westerman but was uninjured, said Ryan Saylorin, Bruce Westerman’s communications director, in an email.

House Speaker Paul Ryan was on the train as well and is uninjured, according to the AP article.

Crawford thanked the first responders from Crozet, Virginia, for helping the injured in a tweet.

The Arkansas congressmen are still going to attend the retreat, Womack's Press Secretary Heather Neilson said.
