JBGB to Close For Patio Renovation

UA alumnus Bradley Chambliss serves guest at JJ's Grill on Wedington Drive on Oct. 12. Unlike JBGB, JJ's Grill primarily employs females as servers but has male bartenders.

JJ’s Beer Garden and Brewing Co., also known as JBGB, closed for remodeling Sept. 30 and will reopen sometime in early 2020.

Additions include enclosing the outside games and music area and adding “improved features to the already fun experience,” according to a JJ’s Grill Corporate press release from Sept. 30.

By enclosing the outdoor space, JBGB will be able to present concerts year-round, make upgrades on the patio space that otherwise would not have been possible and allow the use of outdoor activities all year, according to the press release.

JJ’s officials have not yet selected a contractor or found an estimate on the price of the remodel, owner Jody Thornton said.

Since it opened in 2017, JBGB has served over 250,000 guests and has presented more than 50 concerts to more than 100,000 attendees, according to the press release.

Maria Nessim, a senior, was a waitress at JBGB until it closed and is now serving at JJ’s Grill.

Nessim is excited about the remodel and is interested in seeing what that means for the future of JBGB, she said.

“I think with this remodel, it’ll really move away from a slower winter possibly into a more busy season,” Nessim said. “I’m excited to see how this shifts our business.”
