Returning UA students will receive credit for room and board costs lost after April 3, Chancellor Joe Steinmetz announced in an email Wednesday afternoon.
Students who moved out of university-managed housing after they were directed to vacate the facilities on March 18 will be issued the credits into their general accounts after July 1. The funds can be used to help cover any costs for the upcoming school year, Steinmetz said.
Steinmetz also announced that spring 2020 graduates will be recognized during fall 2020 commencement, which is scheduled for Dec. 19. All spring graduates who wish to participate may attend the fall ceremony.
Spring graduates will be contacted by the registrar’s office to determine interest in attending fall commencement, Steinmetz said. An additional ceremony may be added Dec. 18 if interest is high enough.
“I want everyone to know that we think attending commencement is one of the great milestones of a graduate’s life, and we want everyone who would like to walk to have the opportunity to do so,” Steinmetz said.
Steinmetz also announced policy changes regarding summer classes and tuition costs for the fall semester.
In response to economic difficulties caused by the pandemic, the Board of Trustees voted to hold tuition flat for at least the fall 2020 semester and will re-evaluate in the spring, Steinmetz said.
Classes through the end of summer session II will be taught remotely, Steinmetz said.
