Dear Editor,

While recently coming across different scholarly articles about romantic movies, I quickly found out how much they are affecting relationships. Romantic comedies are very popular among Hollywood directors but they setting relationships up for failure.

Romantic movies, also known as rom-coms, are portraying unrealistic relationships in their movies. And people watch that and want their relationship to be the exact same; so they set their standards for their significant other very high. Usually we don’t meet these expectations so we end up being dissatisfied, which leads to a poor relationship.

We need to take action and raise more awareness of what these movies are instilling in couples across America. It is important for people who are in relationships to understand to difference between love in the films we watch, and the unrealistic expectations we are setting.
