Razorback Soccer (4-1-1) earned their second straight blowout victory with a 7-0 win over the McNeese State Cowgirls (2-3-0) at Razorback Field on Sunday. It was the first time in program history that the team has scored six or more goals in consecutive games.
Junior midfielder Taylor Malham opened the scoring Sunday with a one-yard tap-in assisted by junior forward Parker Goins and freshman defender Ashton Gordon. She finished with three goals and an assist, potting her third goal in the 50th minute to earn a hat trick and a 6-0 lead for the Razorbacks.
“It was a good team win,” Malham said. “Kind of revenge from when we lost last year. It gives the whole team confidence going into Baylor and UNC.”
Goins and senior midfielder Stefani Doyle finished with a goal and two assists a piece. Malham, Doyle and Goins were the three top scorers on the day and have the three highest point totals on the team. Malham has 12 (4g, 4a), Doyle has 11 (4g, 3a), and Goins has 10 (3g, 4a).
Freshman forward Anna Podojil, who was just named SEC Freshman of the Week, tallied her third goal of the season, scoring the second goal of the contest in the sixth minute.
Freshman defender Reagan Swindall scored her second goal in as many games on a header from a corner kick whipped in by freshman midfielder Cara Young.
“There’s just so many attacking options,” head coach Colby Hale said. “You can’t just defend one player. With the diversity of the attack, we can beat you any way.”
The Razorbacks head to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears (3-1-1) on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. Arkansas won last year’s matchup against Baylor 3-2 at home.
