New Arkansas Razorback head football coach Sam Pittman hired former Missouri Tiger head coach Barry Odom as defensive coordinator for the Hogs on Friday afternoon, just two weeks after the Tigers fired Odom.
During his time with the Tigers from 2016-2019, Odom went 25-25 (13-19 SEC) and appeared in two bowl games. Missouri went 6-6 this season but is serving a year-long ban from bowl eligibility.
Odom was fired from Missouri the morning after defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks, 24-14, on Nov. 30.
When serving as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Tigers in 2015, Odom led Missouri to No. 3 in defensive yards allowed per play at 4.32.
“I’m ecstatic that he’s in his car, headed down to Fayetteville as we speak,” Pittman said on the SEC Network. “I felt like I needed a guy on my staff that had been a head coach -- one that I could lean on and talk to. There’s really not a better person out there, and a finer coach and a finer man than Barry Odom.”
Odom now joins new offensive line coach Brad Davis as one of the new hires to Pittman’s staff. Davis also comes to Arkansas from Missouri, serving as the offensive line coach for the Tigers the past two seasons.
