The Arkansas Razorbacks’ date with the TCU Horned Frogs in the Mercari Texas Bowl, set for Thursday, Dec. 31 in Houston, has been canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests within the TCU program. It is the 16th canceled bowl game of the season.
The Hogs were scheduled to leave Tuesday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. until news broke about the Texas Bowl potentially being canceled.
“We are very disappointed not to get the opportunity to compete again as a team,” Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon. “We were excited and wanted to go play TCU in the Texas Bowl, but we certainly understand the issues in the TCU program.”
Bowl representatives reached out to other teams, but were unable to find one to take TCU’s place, according to Pig Trail Nation.
The Razorbacks finish the year with a 3-7 record, marking their highest win total since 2017.
“Our team and our student-athletes have sacrificed a lot over the last several months, including over the holidays, so this is a tough way to end our season,” Pittman said. “I’m so proud of our team for fighting and handling themselves through adversity all year.”
