Softball Adds Hard Hitter to Roster

Arkansas softball will add a new player to its roster that lead her previous team to a Women’s College World Series appearance.

Razorback softball coach Courtney Deifel announced Friday that freshman Danielle Gibson will transfer from Arizona State to the UofA for the 2019 season.

The Sun Devils made it to the Women's College World Series in June and Gibson impressed in her first collegiate season. In her 59 appearances on the field, she averaged a .343 batting average, recorded 57 hits and scored 27 runs, including 12 home runs and 14 RBIs. Fourteen of her hits came within the first month.

At the end of the season, Gibson was one of three freshmen to be named to the All-PAC 12 First Team, as well as the All-PAC 12 Freshman Team. She was also named a finalist for the 2018 Schutt Sports NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award and was a part of the NFCA All-Regional Second Team.

In addition to Gibson, the Hogs also added Jenna Bloom, Paloma Usquiano and Rylin Hedgecock in another top-50 recruiting class for the 2019 season. Deifel continued the trend of adding recruits from her native California as Gibson, Bloom and Usquiano are all from the Golden State as well as eight other players already on the squad.
