The Razorback soccer team continued its winning ways Sunday with a 2-1 victory over fifth-ranked Texas A&M.

Arkansas now stands alone atop the Southeastern Conference as the only remaining unbeaten squad. Following the victory over a top-five competitor, The United Soccer Coaches Poll ranks the Hogs as the No. 3 team in the country, the highest in Razorback soccer team history.

Similar to their previous match, the Hogs, who scored on their first shot of the game, took the lead early and never gave it up.

In the 11th minute, sophomore forward Anna Podojil served a cross into the box to senior forward Parker Goins who deflected the ball into the net. The assist was Podojil’s league-leading third of the season.

Goins was recognized as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for her performance against the Aggies. This marks the second consecutive week a Razorback has received the award. Podojil was honored last week.

The Aggies maintained steady pressure on the Razorbacks throughout the remainder of the half.

Texas A&M was given a penalty shot for a handball inside the box against Arkansas. Senior defender Jimena Lopez’s attempt struck the inside of the post and bounced out to preserve the one-goal lead for the Razorbacks.

The Hogs came out of halftime strong and freshman forward Ava Tankersley curled an effort beyond the Aggie goalkeeper but was flagged for offside. Six minutes later, senior midfielder Kayla McKeon tucked a goal away following a chaotic scramble in the box from a corner kick. It was the first goal of the season for McKeon who missed all of last season due to injury.

Texas A&M answered with a goal of its own as senior midfielder Addie McCain blasted a first-time shot from outside the 18-yard box past Arkansas goalkeeper Alexis Bach. McCain came into the match as the league-leader in goals per game (2.0) after she scored twice in the Aggies’ season opener.

Arkansas managed to hold on to the lead for the remaining 30 minutes of the game to secure the third win of the season, making them 3-0.

The third-ranked Hogs will take on the No. 15 Alabama Crimson Tide Sunday, Oct. 11 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Kickoff is scheduled from 2 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
