Razorback freshman pitcher Mary Haff was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season on April 17, marking the fifth overall weekly award this season by Arkansas.
Haff was named Freshman of the Week on Feb. 19 and March 5. Fellow freshman and outfielder Hannah McEwen was named Player of the Week on March 5 and sophomore pitcher Autumn Storms was named Pitcher of the Week on April 3.
Haff ended last week 3-0 after starting in a 7-0 shutout victory in game one of a doubleheader against the Saint Louis Billikens. Only one hit was made by a Billikens batter, and Haff recorded 13 strikeouts.
She then started in another shutout victory in game two against the then No. 15 Alabama Crimson Tide. Haff ended her week undefeated after the Hogs won their first series win against the Tide, 6-3.
Arkansas recorded its first win in the series since 2012 and only the second time the Razorbacks have completely shut out Bama since the two schools began to play softball. The series finale was Haff’s 20th win as the starting pitcher, the first such mark in the Southeastern Conference this season and Arkansas’ first from a freshman since 2001.
In her 21 innings last week, Haff had 26 strikeouts and three walks. Overall during her freshman campaign, she is 20-3 when starting and has 185 strikeouts.
The Razorbacks sit at a 33-9 overall record this season and 8-7 in Southeastern Conference play. The program is ranked No. 16, the highest in since its founding in 1997.
The Hogs travel to Auburn, Alabama, to play the No. 11 Auburn Tigers on April 20-22. The first pitch will be at 6 p.m.
