SCEN fire

Fire trucks sit parked outside the Science Engineering Hall on Thursday afternoon after an alarm went off, sparking the evacuation of multiple buildings.

Fayetteville Fire Department officials responded to a small machine fire that spurred an evacuation of multiple buildings Thursday afternoon. Two fire trucks and a fire chief arrived on the scene after a fire alarm went off at 1:53 p.m., said one firefighter.

The Science Engineering Hall, Hillside Auditorium and Bell Engineering Center on Dickson Street were evacuated and fire crews responded to a call at 2 p.m. after witnesses saw smoke coming from a room in the Science Engineering Hall, UA Police Department Capt. Gary Crain said.

The smoke originated from a motor that had caught fire in a machine in the room, firefighters discovered.

No one was injured, Crain said. Students returned to the evacuated buildings around 2:20 p.m.
