The Razorbacks gymnastics team finished the Southeastern Conference finals with a fifth place finish March 24. On March 29, two Razorbacks took home postseason awards.

The SEC named Arkansas coach Mark Cook as the coach of the year. Cook has been at Arkansas for 16 years and led the Razorbacks to their best finish since 2011. The team improved its average score by over two points. Nobody in the SEC improved by more than 0.33 points. Arkansas is heading into regionals ranked No. 10, which is the Gymbacks’ highest ranking going into regionals since 2012. Cook previously won co-coach of the year in 2008 and 2016.

Freshman Sarah Shaffer was named SEC Freshman of the Year. She’s the highest ranked freshman in the SEC and is ranked No. 26 nationally on the floor. She’s the only freshman in the SEC ranked nationally in the all-around event at No. 40. Shaffer is the third freshman in program history to win the award.

The Gymnastics team will be a No. 2 seed during the regional tournament April 7 in Columbus, Ohio.
