DVH the recruiter

Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn gives a sign during the Hogs’ Fall World Series in October. Van Horn signed his fourth straight top-five recruiting class earlier this week.

Razorback Baseball head coach Dave Van Horn signed 19 newcomers Monday as part of Arkansas' fourth straight top-five recruiting class.

“Our staff has built an impressive class," Van Horn told Arkansas Athletics. "Coach (Nate) Thompson and Coach (Matt) Hobbs covered a lot of ground on the recruiting trail to bring in a strong mix of position players and pitchers. Adding this class to our current roster will create a lot of healthy competition within our program. There’s a bright future for this group, and we’re excited to get them here.”

Among the Razorbacks’ 19 signees are 13 pitchers and six position players who come from 10 different states. Seven are from Arkansas, and all but two of the signees are high schoolers.

The class includes five top-200 players, with every signee placing within Perfect Game’s top-500 overall recruits.

One highlight of the 2022 signing class is Jayson Jones, a 6-foot-2-inch, 190-pound shortstop from Braswell High School in Savannah, Texas. He is the No. 5 overall player and No. 2 shortstop in the country, according to Perfect Game, a top baseball scouting service. Jones is listed at No. 8 on Baseball America’s ranking of top 2022 high school MLB Draft prospects.

Another key signee, Harold Coll, comes to Arkansas from San Jacinto Junior College in Texas, where he hit .342 with three home runs, 32 RBI and 11 stolen bases last season. Out of high school, Coll was a top-500 recruit and listed as one of the nation’s top 50 shortstops. He is listed at No. 241 on Perfect Game’s 2022 top-300 MLB Draft board.

Mason Neville, yet another highlight of the new class, is a 6-foot-3-inch, 190-pound outfielder hailing from Basic High School in Las Vegas. Neville is ranked as the No. 91 overall recruit and No. 23 outfielder in the country by Perfect Game, which also lists Neville as No. 176 on its 2022 top-300 MLB Draft board.
